Google Wallet to Adds Record Number of Banks

Google Wallet is introducing a new feature that allows users to store their US passports digitally. Announced in September 2024, this feature is currently in beta testing and aims to make travel smoother by enabling users to pass through select TSA checkpoints with ease.

Adding a passport is simple. Go to the “Add to Wallet” menu, choose the “U.S. Passport (beta)” option, and follow the prompts. Users will need to take a picture of their passport’s information page, scan the security chip in the back cover, and record a short video for identity verification.

This feature is available for domestic flights in the US and requires Android 9 or higher. It uses NFC technology for secure information sharing.

In addition to passport support, Google Wallet has expanded its banking options, adding 17 new banks this month, including American Bank & Trust, MyGeorgia Credit Union, and Travis Credit Union. A prepaid Mastercard eGIFT option is also now available. Users can check the updated list of supported banks in the app.
