Samsung Galaxy AI – Samsung has been heavily promoting its generative Galaxy AI features across its latest software and devices. However, these AI capabilities, including those on the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, will not remain free indefinitely.
Generative AI has become a cornerstone of Samsung’s smartphone and software strategy. It aims to enhance user experience while serving as a key selling point for new devices. This approach benefits both consumers and the company, creating a win-win scenario.
That said, generative AI is still far from replacing human interaction with devices. Most tasks still require users’ full attention and manual input.
Samsung Galaxy AI
Galaxy AI, Samsung’s version of generative AI for its devices, was introduced at the Unpacked 2024 event and further emphasized during this year’s Unpacked with the launch of the S25 series. Features like Now Brief, call assist, writing assist, note assist transcripts, browsing tools, audio eraser, object removal, and image generation are powered by on-device AI via the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
While these features are impressive, they remain supplementary rather than essential. Most Galaxy AI features are exclusive to the S25 and S24 series running One UI 7, with a limited number available on select mid-range devices.
Currently, Samsung is not charging for Galaxy AI, but the company has clarified that this won’t last forever. A footnote in its promotional materials states:
“Samsung Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.”
This indicates that Samsung plans to transition Galaxy AI into a paid service starting in 2026. The mention of third-party services, such as Google’s Gemini voice assistant, suggests that these may have separate pricing or terms.
As of now, Samsung has not revealed specific details about the future pricing structure for Samsung Galaxy AI on One UI 7 or Galaxy S25 devices. The company may still be finalizing the terms and conditions for the paid model. Alternatively, it could be waiting to expand Galaxy AI to all eligible devices and gauge user adoption before introducing a fee.
Samsung’s AI strategy remains a work in progress, and more official details will likely emerge in the coming months. For now, users can enjoy these features for free, but the clock is ticking.
