As we eagerly await the official announcement for One UI 7 at today’s Samsung Developer Conference (SDC), let’s take a look back at the journey of One UI 6.0 and its eventful Beta program last year.
Samsung One UI 6.0 Beta Program Overview
The One UI 6.0 Beta Program officially kicked off in early August 2023, although there were some initial hiccups. Samsung posted and then quickly removed the announcement twice before finally releasing the Beta on August 10, 2023. The Beta started with markets like South Korea, Germany, and the US, specifically for the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. In early September, the Beta program expanded to four more countries.
Controversial Animations in One UI 6
The One UI 6.0 Beta was heavily criticized, especially after the second Beta release. The main focus of user feedback revolved around the introduction of non-linear animations, which some users found problematic. These animations were compared to those in iOS and other Android skins, sparking debates among Samsung fans.
9 Beta Versions Released
Over the course of 3 months, Samsung released an impressive 9 Beta versions for One UI 6.0, with regular updates addressing performance and bug fixes. Each new Beta brought improvements, but there were also many hotfixes to deal with specific issues. The Stable version of One UI 6.0 was finally rolled out to Galaxy S23 users by the end of October 2023.
