The Samsung Galaxy S25 series, launched in January, debuted with One UI 7 based on Android 15. While the rollout of One UI 7 for other Samsung devices is still ongoing, the company is already said to be testing its next-generation OS, One UI 8, which is expected to be based on Android 16. According to a tipster, an internal test build of One UI 8 has been spotted on Samsung’s servers.
One UI 8 Testing Underway
The information comes from a post by tipster @tarunvats33 on X (formerly Twitter). The tipster revealed that an internal test build of One UI 8 was found on Samsung’s server, officially labeled as a “newfound test firmware.” The build version is identified as S938BXXU1BYC1/S938BOXM1BYC1/S938BXXU1BYC1.
Samsung appears to have started developing its next-generation OS two months earlier than its usual timeline. However, this does not indicate the beginning of public beta testing. The public rollout of One UI 8 is expected later this year, following previous trends. By then, Samsung will likely have completed the migration of its devices from Android 14-based One UI 6 to One UI 7.
Based on Android 16
One UI 8 is anticipated to be based on Android 16, which was recently confirmed by a company official to be released in June 2025. The OS is expected to move to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on June 3, enabling developers to create custom variants and port them for release.
Expansion of One UI 7 Beta
In related news, Samsung recently announced the expansion of its One UI 7 Beta program to more devices and regions. The beta is now available for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in India, South Korea, the UK, and the US. Additionally, the program will soon include the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S10 series, and Galaxy A55 later this month.
What to Expect from One UI 8
Details about the features of One UI 8 remain under wraps. More information is expected to surface in the coming months as Samsung progresses with the development of the Android 16-based OS.
