Wear OS 5 Update for Pixel Watch
Google has paused the Wear OS 5 update for the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 after some users faced issues that caused their devices to get stuck on a black screen. While many users successfully installed the update, others had to factory reset their watches to fix the problem, losing data in the process.
On September 26, just two days after releasing the update, Google halted the rollout to address these issues. They have provided support articles to help users who encountered problems, including steps to factory reset the watch.
Wear OS 5 expansion
Google provided an update on the Wear OS 5 expansion, confirming that the update was paused on September 26 due to an issue where some Pixel Watch users encountered a blank screen. The problem occurred just two days after the update’s release. As a result, both the manual factory and OTA images were pulled.
Google has also shared links to support articles to help users affected by this issue. These include:
- Fix a blank, frozen, or error message on the Google Pixel Watch screen
- Reset your watch to factory settings
These guides can help users resolve the issue and reset their devices if necessary.

Google has now confirmed that the Wear OS 5 rollout will resume later this year once the issues are resolved. However, the delay may affect upcoming updates, such as the October security patch, for Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, and the future Pixel Watch 3.
Despite the delay, most new features for the Pixel Watch, such as battery notifications and new charging screens, continue to be delivered through app updates via the Play Store. Google is actively working on fixing the problem to resume the update as soon as possible.
