One UI 8 Needs
Samsung’s One UI 8 should bring Android 16’s Advanced Protection features, offering improved security for Galaxy users. Google is working on new Advanced Protection tools that may debut in Android 16, which could benefit Galaxy phones once One UI 8 is rolled out.
Currently, One UI 7, based on Android 15, is expected to enter beta testing soon and will launch publicly early next year. If Samsung follows its usual update strategy, One UI 8, based on Android 16, will follow next.
The Advanced Protection program Google is developing will allow apps to behave differently depending on whether this security feature is enabled. This could include functions similar to Samsung’s Auto Blocker, which prevents apps from being installed from unauthorized sources. Users can still sideload apps by turning off Auto Blocker in Privacy settings.
In Android 16, enrolling in Advanced Protection through device settings could become easier. Once enabled, the system will restrict app installations to Google Play Store and Galaxy Store only, adding an extra layer of security.
A new patch in the AOSP Gerrit, spotted by tech enthusiast Mishaal, mentions a “new service for Android Advanced Protection Mode.” This service would let apps check if users have Advanced Protection enabled and adjust their behavior accordingly. Additional authentication might also be required to access sensitive content like banking information or protected files.
While full details are yet to be confirmed, Android 16’s Advanced Protection is expected to boost device security significantly. This should be a key feature in Samsung’s One UI 8 update for Galaxy users.
