Samsung Accelerates One UI 8 Development. Samsung is reportedly accelerating the development of One UI 8, seemingly to compensate for delays in the rollout of One UI 7.
A recent report has uncovered a new firmware for the Galaxy S25, identified by the version number S938BXXU1BYC1. This differs from the current S938BXXU1AYB4, which corresponds to One UI 7 (based on Android 15). The key difference lies in the latter part of the firmware version, where the letter “B” replaces “A,” indicating a potential new software upgrade.
However, the firmware does not explicitly confirm its identity, meaning it cannot yet be definitively labeled as One UI 8. This raises the possibility of it being One UI 7.1, though tipster Ice Universe has previously stated that Samsung does not plan to release a 7.1 or 7.1.1 update this year. This suggests that Samsung might be considering a direct leap to One UI 8.
This speculation is further supported by Google’s accelerated timeline for Android 16, which is expected to enter beta by May or June. If this holds, Samsung may be aligning its development cycle with Google’s, potentially beginning internal testing for an Android 16-based OS. This could mean the new firmware is tied to Android 16 rather than Android 15.
Samsung Accelerates One UI 8 Development
The news of One UI 8’s development comes amid delays in the One UI 7 rollout. Recently, Samsung expanded the One UI 7 beta program to include more devices, such as the Fold 6 and Flip 6 foldables. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 series has been in beta since December 2024, with a stable release expected in April. This suggests the S24 beta program will continue through March. Additionally, despite pending updates for many older devices, Samsung plans to initiate beta testing for the S23 and other devices later this month.
The announcement of One UI 8’s development may alleviate some frustration among Samsung users, as it hints at a potentially faster release compared to One UI 7. However, concrete evidence is still needed to confirm these speculations and turn them into reality. For now, users will have to wait for more official updates from Samsung.
